@SteamGrace correct. They kinda had a back and forth influence. The Beatles released Rubber Soul and The Beach Boys responded with Pet sounds, which as you said, influenced the beatles to make sgt. pepper. It is actually quite cool. And not to mention we gain the benefit of listening to their awesome music :)
