Esa-Pekka Salonen travels to his home town for the first time with the Philharmonia Orchestra. We follow him on his journey from Maida Vale Studios to the first night performance of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring.
@mario54671 Rite of Spring conducted by Salonen with the Philharmonia is being performed in Royal Festival Hall this February 10th. Some Bartok in the program too
I went in Hesinki this week end from Paris, for this two concerts. A "dream come true program", really amazing. The Rite of Spring, la Mer and Salonen's piano concerto, 3 pieces to die for. The day after, Mahler 6 at the top ... By the way, loved Helsinki too.
Salonen's the best! This would've been a great concert! I wish I could've gone! :/. I hope I can maybe go to London to see Salonen with the Philharmonia orchestra sometime, that would be a real treat, and Rite of Spring, I love that piece! I've never heard him do Beethoven's 9th, although he's done it a few times here in Los Angeles, I've never heard it...I hope maybe he records with the Philharmonia orchestra some new stuff and then maybe that could be one of them. :P Ahh oh well.
