It is because he was recovering from throat problems and major surgery.

The song I dedicated to my beautiful girl when I went to Afghanistan, it kept me safe and warm during the cold nights. Thanks for posting music from this LEGEND of an artist.

Great comments. To all mums everywhere, gone on and those with us, and to all the late night grooners in pubs across the universe remembering them. God bless 'em all!

Someone may have already mentioned this- and forgive my repeating if that is the case- but I recognize this as "Time Was" which was also performed by Jimmy Dorsey with Bob Eberle and Helen O'Connell. Same melody, different title and lyrics. Still beautiful.

Talulah13 - Pretty good song by the magical Al Bowlly. His best song in my view is The Very Thought of You. How tragic to lose him 70 years ago! Will he ever be replaced? I don't think so.

this song makes me think that once, long long ago, in a gentler time -i was a beautiful woman who could glide across dance floors and be ogled for my sheer luminosity! aaaaaah!

I especially love Al Bowlly. His voice is a wonder, it is so romantic when he sings and this makes me dream.

Ai luvz it.
My word but this takes me back some. ln the late fifties to mid sixties l was a pub pianist playing Saturdays and Sundays eight 'till eleven. l recall that on Saturday evenings there was an elderly gent who always drank alone at the end of the bar. Then,at twenty past ten he would come across to ask me to play Dreaming for him to sing to,after which he would empty his glass and leave to wait for the last bus home. He had a pretty fair voice too, bless him. But he only ever sang that one song.

@crankbv1 Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful, charming memory. It is a rather beautiful song and it must have had some very extra special meaning for this gentleman. :) x

a wonderful song and a sad reminder of how far we have declined over the past several decades.

@58athlete Unfortunately sad but true I'm afraid, for those days we will never see again.

You are more than welcome loris711. Yes, it truly is a beautiful song and made all the better, (if that's at all possible), being sung by Al Bowlly!
