A simple Soleares I learned by ear. This is my first flamenco playing ever, and honestly speaking, I really don't know much about flamenco technique

I also found out that I knew nothing about compas when I recorded this!

  • I loved this, I love flamenco music and playing, and you do a very nice job!!! Another A+ is that you're adorable !!! I play a little of it myself but not as well as you do, I'm more classical guitar. Please do more flamenco videos. breamlute16

  • hanks for the nice comment. This is the only flamenco I "play", and after learning a bit about how real flamenco should be played, I realized that my playing in this video is quite erratic - there is something called compas which is one of the fundamental elements of flamenco which lacks in this video... Hopefully I will record a Soleares again, correctly.

  • For all of you that have to comment on compas..chill out. This is a beautiful played piece. So what if it doesn't have perfect compas. Enjoy all levels of performance as we all improve. I can tell by seeing the look on this mcbalden that he loves his music for what it is.

  • Thanks for the support buddy :)

  • and its not in 3/4 time. Youre supposed to think of it as a 12 beat cycle with accents on 3 6 8 10 and 12. Technically its 3/4 and 6/8 alternating but its harder to think of it that way, thats why we use the 12 beat system.

  • Thanks for the tips.

  • sorry but i think it lacks expression very dull

  • It is a ginormous difference, so some web searching is in order. Look at some of the "Bulerias" videos on Youtube, and the alzapuas vidoes. This piece you can kind of get away with as it does not use alot of what is called alzapua technique. Also the "compas" rhythms are very distinct, and they are what carry the music forward with an irresistible motion, that this type of playing just does not have. He is pretty clever to pick it out by ear, however.

  • I agree, good ear! I don't know how to play flamenco guitar but I enjoy it very much... flamenco music in general. I took a flamenco class once (dance) and had to learn to hear the compas... there are various types with the emphasis at different counts. Bulerias are fun! And so are sevillanas. I'm not sure what alzapuas are, but I'm gonna check that out right now :)
