  • Hi,

Where did you get This BB-xm? It is out of stock everywhere.

How did you get GNOME working on this device?

Is it able to play h.264 1080i HD?

    Thanx in advance

  • @Daan1900 I just installed angstrom on it, that has had gnome working for years now. The beagleboard won't be able to play 1080i h264, 720p30 h264 should be doable with the right DSP codecs.

  • @koenkooi

In fact, 1080i isn't much more difficult than 720p:

    1080*1920/2 = 1.036.800 pixels per frame

    720*1280 = 921.600 pixels per frame

I want to build a kind of "Dreambox extention", so it has to play a RAW dvb-s stream.

Do you really think this is not going to work?

  • @Daan1900 the problem is that there is no 1080i output, so everything is done as 1080p internally, which is too much for the ram bandwidth :(

  • @majortom2grndctrl apologies, after reading the other comments all my questions were answered.

  • is the XBMC package just available in the default angstrom repos, or are you having to cross compile XBMC for arm to get it to work on the beagleboard? if you are using a custom package, where could we obtain it from? i'm assuming that since it works on the beagleboard that it should also work on the more powerful pandaboard (dual core cortex A9) - great job on this! i'd love to see where this goes in the future and i hope the official XBMC guys will pick this up and help with the port.

  • Hi, I can't get my beagleboard xm with the XBMC..After opening the XBMC it stalls for long time and XBMC never open. The TOP shows almost 93% of CPU is used. Can you please let me know, how did you got your image ?

  • Please, can you share your image with us?

I am not able to get the DSP running.

    When I run sudo dsp-test, I get:

error: create_node: dsp node allocate failed

error: main: dsp node creation failed

  • Hi,

I've got my own bb-xm now.

Which DSP codecs did you use?

I would like to run xbmc as well.

  • @icegray7 same problem!

  • Hi,

I have beagleboard (1280x720 res) and I want to run xbmc on it. I got 4gb sd card image (bbXM image) from angstrom web page then install xbmc (opkg install xbmc) but it doesn't run. I can't find the problem. any idea?

    Thanks

  • This is excellent, if its legit. and there are plenty of ways to optimize speed for the ARM based ubuntu distro, the most obvious being dont use gnome; for example if all you want is xbmc you could install the xfce UI or Lubuntu's new UI. Gosh I cant wait to get one of these and start programming on it a bit. After all the earlier (none xM) model ran 720P, sluggishly yes but it ran and this vastly superior hardware should enable potentially even 1080P; or at least 720P smoothly.

  • @Daan1900: 1080i is also 50/60fps, whereas most 720p content is 24/30fps, so you have to double the 1080i value and then the difference is huge!
