A one-day workshop, sponsored by Texas AgriLife Extension and held in the small southeast Texas town of West Columbia, explored the new problem of a tiny ant that rivals the fire ant as a pest. Our field trip revealed an ant that appears capable of overwhelming other ants and insects in natural as well as human environments.

  • Pretty sure I have a few million of these in my backyard. Probably got them from some potted plants I got at Home Depot.

  • @SuzyBriseno It's possible if you live in the Houston region

  • @aurum2007 they don't bite, they are just annoying, here in the caribbean they are anole food and they hate puertorican black ants!!!

  • Do these things have any natural predators in the Caribbean? What keeps their numbers in check in their original habitat? Are they susceptible to any kind of bacteria or fungi? Sounds like something straight out of a horror flick!

  • Exotic crazy ants now pretty much range along the Gulf Coast from Brownsville to Miami...
