It seems amazing to me the extent to which the Nixon adminstration exposed themselves by releasing the tapes, or the extent to which the USA was at that time so fair and open that such tapes were released.
I think that any leader in private swears, is cynical, and says things that are politically negative and that no leader could survive such taping. That the US published the tapes is an amazing thing. The US was honest then.
@doesia492 I am not an american either but, Nixon's party (Republicans) paid some burglars to break into the opposition (Democrats) headquarters in "Waterage" and plant bugs. It is probable that Nixon had no involvement with the bugging but, as the FBI connected the burgulars with the Republicans, Nixon attempted to quash the investigation. Or rather, tapes of Nixon talking to his aides about the matter were released which showed him attempting to stop the investigation. He swore a lot too.
Where are the first 18 1/2 minutes of the watergate tapes??
