(October 24, 2009) Stanford Professor of Electrical Engineering, Sebastian Thrun, discusses his project to make cars safer, more convenient, and more efficient, through robotic technology and he speculates about possible ways to have this technology into every car in the near future.

One day you will just have to SMS your car then it will come right in front of you. Nice work. Continue the development.

@rrpin (cont'd) We've come a long way in computer technology, evidenced by your ability to post a message despite your regressive thought process. How about giving this emerging technology a chance? Millions of people who would otherwise die in car accidents will thank you. But do us a favor-- call all your politician Luddite buddies who are dragging their feet with the approval process and tell them not to be afraid of progress.

@rrpin Sorry to say, that's the response which only makes sense to an anti-tech retrodweeb. The very topic of this video is how slowly transportation has progressed in 100 years, and in response you are suggesting a huge, 100-year step BACKWARD. (cont'd)

@rrpln Problem is: we can't build a railway all over the globe. #1 steel is more expensive than asphalt. #2 that doesn't take care of the issue of turns to go off the road. #3 That would require a complete re-design of our highways. I believe the answer to self-driven cars is a combination of GPS, radar, and high-quality cameras mounted in the car body.
