Ganesha goes Green in Ananthram Nagar colony, in association with Hyderabadgoesgreen.com. Vinayaka Chavithi, which is supposed to mark cultural strength and synergy with nature has become a cause for destruction of nature. The use of synthetic colors is creating dangerous pollution. The sound pollution and damaging effects are immense. This dilution of chastity and sanctity of our festivals and the environmental pollution caused by chemicals in making idols has considerably reduced the aesthetics and spirituality of this nature oriented festival.

Realizing the need to create awareness among people about environment and the boundless richness of nature and inculcate a sense of commitment towards its protection, the festival was celebrated in an ecofriendly way. Plastic bags & plates were replaced by handloom cloth bags, leaf bowls & paper plates. Puja offerings like dried out leaves & flowers were sent for composting instead of dumping in a lake. A Recycling workshop & Green painting competition was also organised among kids.
