@tculhane It's interesting you show the CFL inside an upside down fixture
.
In MY fixtures the heat from the bulb becomes trapped, and the CFL dies within a month or two (the heat cooks the capacitors). I'd be better off using incandescents that don't mind getting hot
.

Sorry but i love incandecents.

what energy crisis is he talking about? Gasoline prices? What does that have to do with your electric bill? I'm putting in pot-lights and I chose 65 watt incandescent because I need dimmable light and a bulb that actually filled the fixture. Dimmable CFLs were not the right size and were 2X the cost. You don't save money when you spent 90 dollars for 6 freaking light bulbs that aren't even what you want. It is also a myth that increasing energy efficiency saves energy. Look up Jovens paradox.

The ban doesnt include appliance bulbs, candle, and floodlight bulbs. CFL= BEST BULB EVER , very simple. For those who hoard the old dirty bulb, thankfully they burn out fast so you will tear through your silly collections very quickly in the course of five years.

The good news for those of us who like incandecents is that they're currently in the process of making energy efficient incandecent bulbs that look exactly like our traditional bulbs. only difference is that they'l be energy efficient bulbs. they have 4 and a half more yrs to improve on this project and I'm sure they'l be successful at this. Once in the market, most ppl using CFLs will go back to incandecents. with all due respect, those of u in favor of the ban is the governments pet.

one of the issues that hasnt been disgussed enough is that MANY of us own appliances that are only suitable for incandecent bulbs, such as refridgerators. Anyone who has a brain knows that CFLs dont work well in cold. I guess that means that once these bulbs phase out and we open our fridges, we'l have to use flash lights to see the food we're gona take out. Funny how this was never mentioned.........

all this talk about saving the planet by not using edison bulb is all a joke. 1st off, nobodys gona tell me what kinda light i can use in my own home. CFLs are ugly light bulbs and nobody can convince me otherwise. When u think about it, nothing has been solved because more and more ppl like ME are stocking up on incandecents to last us a life time. I have started since 2007 until the phase out. This is just another poor excuse of the government meddling in ppls lives.

oh, yea, that's a great idea!! Keep giving the government more support for banning anything and everything. Don't you folks who approve of these ever-growing despotic regimes ever read history books; today incandescents in the Land Down Under - tomorrow, who knows, maybe they'll ban chocolate ice cream. It'll never end.
-
it appears that you were the one that created the cfl

just installed 36 on my restaurant
Incandescents will be banned in my country in 2010.

That is great news! I assume you are from Australia! In California the Governator has made a similar proposal, so I hope the U.S. follows the great down under. On my visits to Australia I have been impressed by what I've seen in solar energy applications too, especially the SunBall Rooftop solar collector. Good on ya!

Don't quit your day job. To make a long story short, just screw in the fluorescent bulb.

Very funny stumpeteer, but when we made this silly little video for a presentation by a utility company, back at the turn of the century, almost nobody knew or cared about CFL's and most upscale households with recessed cans insisted THEY couldn't change their lightbulbs. Most were unaware that different types of bulbs existed, and they certainly weren't sold everywhere. Now, almost a decade later, there IS general awareness so this video is moot, but serves as an historical record of our day job!
