Hi, my name is Paul Roberts; I'm a multicultural roots musician, multi-instrumentalist and composer. And I'm trying to awaken the world to cello banjos... and sell one (at least) to everybody in the world. Cello banjos are growly beasts that have only very recently returned to us from antiquity. These instruments -- and all Gold Tone musical instruments -- are available through my website: http://www.banjocrazy.com/ where you can also find my phone number to call me, free, within the US.

"Far Away Places" is based on a Middle Eastern tune a friend of mine sang for me many moons ago. I got the name from banjoinst Rob McCarthy from Australia who said of my music, "You always take me off to far away places while listening."

The cello banjo is an instrument whose sound harkens back to ancient times: at home with American roots music, music from the East - and new compositions created especially for it; a great instrument for American old-timey music, multicultural roots music, original musings and improvisation. One musician who has discovered the cello banjo is Béla Fleck who uses his for African roots music.

Cello banjos originated as an early American instrument that played bass parts in banjo orchestras, around the turn of the 20th century. Tuned an octave below a standard banjo, it is strung with wound classical guitar strings. Since the cello banjo was brought back to life by musician Marcy Marxer and Gold Tone creator Wayne Rogers, I've enjoyed introducing people to some of their musical possibilities. I play both models of cello banjos that Gold Tone makes: the 4-string (CEB-4) and 5-string (CEB-5).

Visit my website http://www.banjocrazy.com/ to check out 4 and 5-string cello banjos as well as the entire line of Gold Tone instruments and articles and interviews featuring great traditional banjo players: Adam Hurt, Marcy Marxer, Cathy Fink, Bob Carlin, Gordon Johnston and others. http://www.banjocrazy.com/adamhurt.shtml contains a whole lot of information about Adam Hurt, the young inspirational banjo hero from North Carolina - a great musician who is doing so much to expand the horizons of the ancient clawhammer style.

Thanks for listening and I hope to hear from you.

Best regards,
PauL Roberts
