Ever wondered what it would be like to blast through the Grand Canyon? Come with me on a low level ride in an F4 Phantom with Xplane 9. Camera changes between internal and external views. Most of the flying is relatively sedate and efficient, with a couple of 4 point rolls and needlessly aggressive attitude changes for fun somewhere in the middle.

There are plenty of near-blackouts, but I make sure I don't pull so hard as to completely lose the picture for any length of time. The blackouts on the captured replay are the same as what I was dealing with during the flight.

It finishes up with 4 point rolls at 30, 45 and 60 degrees nose up, with some rolls to the vertical, leveling out at FL220.

This is Xplane 9 with stock scenery and the stock F4 Phantom with 1/2 tanks.

  • what compuuter you have? will my mac osx perform this well?

  • @chris5812341234 This was on a Intel 2.4g oc'd to 3.2g with a GeForce 8800GT. Try the xplane demo (costs nothing) and see how it runs on your machine. The default setting are very conservative, you'll want to spend some time tuning it for your rig and needs.

  • Seriously low and fast flying, well done. I must say though, it appears you may have lost some of the starboard wing at 3:29, still, quite impressive!

  • Thanks! Too funny, I wondered if anyone would catch that. :) I rely on the fact that the collision detection doesn't appear to extend to the wing tips!
