He takes controversial roles to learn more about himself. The more diverse the roles the more he gets to experience. He reads a script and then becomes the character. I think it would really suck to be the same type of character/person in every show/movie you were in for the rest of your life... He's played a dying patient at a hospital, a boyfriend of a desperate housewife, a scientist who truly believes what he's doing is right...but went about it the wrong way, a professor, BK, and more...
