they don't run at the same time. windows runs on virtul machine into ubuntu

eh how come windows xp and ubuntu run at the same time? just how big your ram is?
-
how you it hid its to taskbar of windows?

I'd be running this off of 512MB RAM so I'd probably feel the performance hit. I would like to create this set up then run Windows XP remote desktop connection to a remote server. Sounds complicated... I know this method also applies to connecting to that remote desktop on this server but I also want to continue to use those Windows apps

how did you get the startmenu to simply pop out there? I only got so far that I could start single applications using something like "rdesktop -A -s seamlessrpdshell taskmgr". I suppose you were already logged in with something that already was minimized?
This looks cool. Is this the same as running Windows under Linux through QEmu?

It is. On mine, VMware server is set to boot Windows in the background when Linux boots.
I don't often use it, but I've got a fast system with 3gb RAM, so I don't notice any performance hit. It's nice to just pop it up when I need it.
So it's a network rdp connection between the XP on VM and Linux. You could do the same between Linux and any other XP pro machine you can get a network connection to (inc over VPN etc)

Just a quick note for anyone googling for that guide..
It had the application paths in the rdesktop command in single quotes. I had to use double quotes for it to work.

This should help with the start menu:
hmmmm... didn't realise that you can't put urls in comments. If you google for "10 minutes to run every Windows app on your Ubuntu desktop" you should get to a set of instructions. It involves setting up a windows account with a NoDesktop registry entry and then launching seamlessrdp and explorer.exe with rdesktop. Seamlessrdp is a free download.
I just adjusted the translucency of the task bar with alt+scroll wheel so that it is almost invisible.
