Although i do have to point out that use of a chainsaw one handed should only be used when your other hand is required to keep you in a safe working position. working on spikes and stropped on, there should have been no reason to be using the saw 1 handed.

Actually, you are completely mistaken. The only thing that went wrong here is that for some reason his ground person failed to run the working line in order to avoid dynamic loading. If the rope had been run properly, the top would have decelerated slowly and he wouldn't have gone for that unfortunate ride.
