Watch loads of players on youtube and pause every bar you hear something you like and work out how to play it, simple as that. I take little riffs I hear and then incorporate them into larger sequences, practice is all there is to it. And always lean towards playing stuff that sounds worse but that's not repetitive, with practice it'll sound better but if you just repeat it wont really improve as much.
