Beautiful Photographs with a Call On President Barack Obama to Urge US Ratification of the UN Convention on the Human Rights of the Child

Geneva, Switzerland

Dr. Ariel Rosita King: The Ariel Foundation International AFI and the Ariana-Leilani Childrens Foundation International ALCF have called upon President Obama to push the USA to join the rest of the world by ratifying the CRC in Geneva. Participating in the press conference in Geneva were international policy and legal experts Richard Harrison (UK/France): 40 year retired United Nations Civil servant; Roy Morris, JD (USA); Birgit Kruassman, JD (Germany); Dr. Ariel King (Germany/USA), President, Ariel Foundation International and Ariana-Leilani Childrens Foundation. The press conference was held as a follow-up to AFI and ALCFs recent participation the United Nations 51st Committee (May 27 12 June 2009) on the Rights of the Child (CRC) in Geneva, Switzerland.

All of us share this world for but a brief moment in time. The question is whether we spend that time focused on what pushes us apart or whether we commit ourselves to an effort, a sustained effort to find common ground, to focus on the future we seek for our children and to respect the dignity of all human beings. (Obama, speech, June 4, 2009)

"It's important that the United States return to its position as a respected global leader and promoter of Human Rights. It's embarrassing to find ourselves in the company of Somalia, a lawless land. I will review this and other treaties and ensure that the United States resumes its global leadership in Human Rights." (Walden University Presidential Debates, 2008).

  • A beautiful video. Unfortunately just the opposite of what is in the best interest of children. The UN CRC will undo most Federal and State law concerning children, parents, and families. The UN CRC will undermine the rights of parents, who are the primary, most effective, and the ONLY rightful authority over the raising of our children. Except of course in cases of neglect or abuse, which are already addressed by existing law. The UN CRC will spell the end of US freedom.

  • @thomaspaine2000 We disagree. The good parts of the current state and federal laws will be strengthened by the UN CRC, by making a cohesive and uniform framework for all state and federal courts. There is nothing in the UN CRC that undermines the good things in these laws.

  • @AFIAFC Sounds nice, but look a little closer.

Who says the US needs our laws "strengthened"? And if so, then why not let us do it? Why involve the UN? It has never been necessary to allow the UN into our legislatures nor our courts, and it sure is not the time to start. Many of the nations who have ratified the UNCRC are terrible places for children. Tell me, what's wrong with the present situation in the US, that we need the "help" of the UN?

  • The US actually drafted the UN Convention for the Rights of the Child. There are no federal laws setting forth a cohesive framework on childrens rights. The 50 states implement a patchwork quilt of their own laws that do not work together very well and provide no relief in federal court for violations of childrens's rights. The better question is why would we help draft a treaty that we expect every other country to adhere to -- but be the only country in the world that fails to ratify it?

  • @AFIAFC Is there any way you could present my case to the UN CRC? I certainly think that the fat that I have not been allowed even to see or have contact with my daughter for the past three years is a human rights violation.

  • See my channel Iamnotanumbernr1.

    Children's rights denied in Europe.

Families torn apart as the Hague convention is denied because of money!

Private company charge 100.000 euro per year for '24/7 care' of children who should be in their own country with their mother instead and the Dutch judges back them up.

Look at my channel and rate video's. Rights should be there but are denied!
