  • Is that the end of it? You mentioned applying the slip as a background for the decoration.

  • The end on You Tube. Go to Google, put in Alan Frewin to find out about my DVDs

  • Impressive skills, Alan. Do you slip biscuited ware or leather hard?

  • I slip leather hard.

  • you can only slip leather hard. Slip is actually just watered down clay and pigment. If you tried to fired it on bisque ware it would just crack off right? Since there is no silica?

  • This is correct but I add silica to my white slip in order to slightly alter its expansion and cantraction so that the slip can expand and contract after firing at the same rate as the pot. Yes if you put slip onto biscuit then the slip will shrink as it dries but the pot will stay the same and the slip will flake off.

  • man thats a huge plate. . . you can prolly serve a few heads on it. and dish it out. .

  • Very nice. I was awesome how steady you were with moving the slip around the platter. Perfect.

  • nice.................

  • HEllo again Allan .. I had the great luck to work at Wetheriggs Pottery up nr Penryth for a short time in the early 70's .. We did slip decorating with a cows horn and goose quill .. Great fun .. Very helpful for me working up some Bennington style flowers and birds with salt glaze stoneware back here in New England .. Great meeting you here .. All the best , guy Wolff

  • Alan, would you be able to follow this with a video on how you complete the decoration?

    Cheers!
