'Big bang' particle beam completes first circuit - 10 Sep 08

It's the world's biggest science experiment - the quest for what some people call the "god particle".

After years of anticipation, the most powerful atom-smasher ever built has been fired-up under the mountains of Switzerland and France.

Scientists hope to recreate the conditions of the "Big Bang", and find the answer to some of the most fundamental questions about the origins of the universe.

Hamish Macdonald reports from Geneva.

The project has taken over 25 years spanning the efforts of 33 countries, which would make about 10moll per year per country (aka nothing)

When was the last time you heard of throwing money at the countries you speak of helping their problems? Never? They are run by corrupt governments who would just take your donation and continue to not give any money/food/medicine to its people like it had before

some ppl who don't know what a black hole is hear it's dangerous and there producing it in CERN! let's be all against it, you know they have been in operation for quite a while and i must say, i'm still alive.

this reminds me of the first train, all the farmers where complaining that there cow's won't give any milk anymore with the train tracks next to the meadow, as we still have milk the farmers view was proved wrong.

This is stupid how people believe that the world will end cause of this experiment. This is a simple experiment used on a microscopic scale. The only black holes that will be created will be tiny and dissipate in a matter of seconds, not long or big enough to destroy the world. In order to create a black hole large enough, they would need the energy of 10 billion atomic bombs. There's not enough energy on this planet to generate that kind or power so stop crying!
