Old Wilcox & White Co Angelus piano player. Filmed December 2008.
Due to the family home being severely damaged in the earthquakes here (Christchurch, New Zealand) it has come the time to sell this. Does anyone know if it does have (or not) any value? If so, who would be interested. Thank you. (I will update with a new video in the next month - and with a tuned piano!)

  • what song is that? sounds SO familiar! rachmaninoff? or maybe beethoven i don't rmeember

  • Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata op. 27 no. 2- hard to tell with an untuned piano! Still on my list of things to do.

  • indeed great to see a push-up player which is not an Aeolian, to bad I can't play mine yet.

I'd be even better tough with a tuned piano. please have it tuned as it's also better for the piano, as it is designed to be in tune.... thnx for the vid.

  • Thank you for the tip - I will arrange to get the piano tuned prior to selling the Angelus. There are over 100 rolls so will select something different for the next video.

  • Thankyou so much for showing this , its just fantastic to see on here! , hope to see more soon.

  • Thanks DuaArtDanOz for the lovely comment. As my comment above I will put something else on. I remember seeing the William Tell Overture roll so.....

  • Is is a 58 note player? I have a non-operational Angelus Orchestral (piano player/reed organ combo) for many years. It was made in 1901. I had it in fine playing order at one time, but made the error of using modern material in place of the original tan pouch leather: the player failed inside of five years use. But these are great machines and quite relatively rare today. Enjoyed your Angelus, thanks!

  • What would Beethoven say? Call the piano tuner!

  • Lol I'm listening to now and I can so hear it. It's just played too fast I think. I have the same piano (except it has been modified so it's not a player piano) and it's pretty out of tune. Moonlight sonata sounds good for the first couple of seconds and then when you get into the lower left hand chords it just sounds a low noise lol.

  • awsome i have a piano technicians book because i tune my own piano and this kind of gadget is very rare so yo might want to have it re finished and tune your piano and put it in a very nice place and take good care of it because the chances of you finding another one are 1 in a trillion

  • I'm very curious to see more of this piano player. I'm currently restoring a Hupfeld push-up in very bad condition, so I can't do any video's yet. thnx for the reply, and please excuse me for not just minding my own business ;-)
