phelps is the best complete swimmer in the world but hes not a better freestyler than ian thorpe... ull say that he broke his record but ian thorpe doenst swim anymore and to see that hes not the best freestyler look at the relays...

Ian Thorpe will always be arguably the greatest freestyle swimmer...Phelps is certainly not a better at freestyle

@francinoitalianation he took time off after athens and was planning to return for the commonwealths in 2006. he was forced to pull out due to illness. he was then never able to make a real comeback due to lack of motivation. he retired in november 2006.
