The station that once "Dared To Be Different" is no more. Here's another audio tribute (not video) to WLIR-The New Music Station. Cheers to the voices, irreverence, humor and, most of all, the music that made it great.

  • Thx for the comment! I want to upload more although its just an audio thing; I have no video footage. But I have hours and hours of WLIR audio dating back from 1983 to the present. Thought it would be a cool thing to share now that it's gone.

  • I miss 92.7 WLIR so badly...I was devastated when it went off the air the second time in 2004. I havent been able to find a radio station that can play HALF of what was played on WLIR. I listen to my Ipod now which has alot of what WLIR played. I go to Subculture in Amityville on friday nites and they play ALOT of the old music.

I only wish someone would bring back the music under another station...anybody hear me? All WLIR listeners are SUFFERING!! Please bring it back!

  • It is high time for Beaner Radio to go VAMINOS AHORA!!!

    BRING BACK 92.7 WLIR!!!

  • It sure brings back lots of memories. I went to Hofstra in the 80s and this was my soundtrack.

  • @scaffoldmusic

Larry is on Sirus xm and i believe DD is on 102.3 WBAB in NY- it's weird hearing her on WBAB-

  • I also found it on You Tube. "Amok"

  • Not to mention "Unkiss That Kiss" Stephen Duffy original lead singer of Duran Duran, before Simon LeBon, and their first album.

  • Then again they probably still are awesome..

  • Donna Donna, Malibu Sue, Larry The Duck and all the rest.....WERE awesome. I wonder where they are now?

  • I totally agree. I even still have WLIR, and WDRE bumper stickers, window stickers, and Applications for the WLIR card.

  • It's "Amok" by the artist known as Lederknacken. I believe that is the spelling. I do have a copy on vinyl. If you have any other New Wave artist or song trivia let me know....DW

  • Anyone remember the name of the German song at 1:56?
