Finger-synching to the original recording on "My Father's Face." This was an experiment to see if I could play along with Kottke "note for note." The audio is *NOT* my playing, it's Kottke's original studio recording. The song is in standard tuning, capo fifth fret. UPDATE: According to YouTube, this video may be removed due to copyright issues (since the actual song is playing in the background).

  • So you have this on tablature? Where can I find it?

  • You can find the tab I used to learn this tune in Mark Hanson's book "The Music of Leo Kottke". Available in most music stores or from Mark's website (google Accent on Music).

  • ThomasAWilliam: I can't sight-read standard notation (not in real time anyway). I usually learn from tablature and use standard notation for timing, etc.

  • I don't get it. Are you doing the fingerstyle equivalent of lip-synching?

  • Yeah, you got it, a bit of an experiment. I wanted to see if I could synchronize my playing note-for-note to Kottke's original recording. The audio is purely Kottke. Think of it as karaoke for guitar. :)

  • It's kind of cool for someone to "see" how the piece was played. Thanks Bruce.

  • At some point I'll post my actual playing of this piece instead of this karaoke version ... I was too lazy to make a decent audio recording. :)
