It's so sad that women had to choose between love or self preservation. Jane Austen was revolutionary.

Not a lot of say for unmarried women living with their parents in those days....sad. However I suppose if you still live with your parents these days and they decide to move shop and they havent got the room you pretty much in a similar position. Hopefully the vultures wouldn't be circling as much as in janes case though,

The way Jane's brother and wife moves in with such haste resembles, the prospect that Mr.Collins could have taken the Bennet's home in P&P and the way John Dashwood and his wife Fanny in how they took over Marianne's, Elinor's and their mother's home in S&S.
