  • You do need a hood to get rid of the glare. An easy way to see the difference a hood makes is to put your hand above the lens while taking the pic. I did this and immediately bought a hood on ebay. When you get the hood try this again to really have an idea of which filter is best.

  • I never use a hood, but it all comes down to personal preference. My photography instructor never saw the need for one, so I just learned to do without; that said, much of what I do is light-reliant; I don't shoot at a time of day when the sun is going to be glaring on my shot.
