Arsene Wenger said he was humiliated by the crushing 8-2 defeat at Premier League rivals Manchester United.

Wayne Rooney scored the sixth hat-trick of his Old Trafford career as United went back to the top of the table and left Wenger facing a growing crisis.

"Of course you feel humiliated when you concede eight goals," said the Arsenal boss. "It was a terrible day."

Sir Alex Ferguson said: "He has been a big adversary and will continue to be when he gets his big players back."

Wenger insists it is too early to judge whether his summer transfer policy has been flawed following the departures of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri and the lack of midfield replacements.

But he is now battling to sign reinforcements before the transfer window closes at 2300 BST on Wednesday.

  • as if it wasn't bad enough losing that match..but travelling back with 70,000 united fans back to london made it even more annoying

  • Ok the mauling was quite embarassing but seriously why are Arsenal fans asking him to be sacked? Look at everything he has done for your club in the past, respect the man for god's sake

  • Best moment ever in football.

  • @merki101 thats the thing, arsenal do have the funds, they charge the highest prices for a league ticket and consistently fill the stadium ! plus champions league funds and money from fabregas and nasri ! they barely spent 30mill on the players they bought in the summer !

  • @supasaiyn ur asking for too much there, thats half a squad of axing lol,and i doubt wenger has the funds to deal with them replacements,

  • Its ok...when u guys visit Ac Milan, Arsene Wenger will have to think of how to cope with another such interview.

  • Maybe another 2-8 at Emirates will make him buy new players.. There is still no transfer news until now.

  • @Xpressant He hasnt been good for us in 2 games in a row for 18 months now. He is 30 and wont improve anymore. We should sell him now while he is still worth a few million and replace him with someone who will atleast put the effort in.

  • @St3v3z no arshavin was injured and unfit for a while he needs time

  • @supasaiyn Coquelin is Arsenals second best young player behind Wilshere atm.... Why on earth would you wanna get rid of him? Jenkinson looks decent too and should certainly be kept. Chamakh, Arshavin, Squillachi need replacing though.

  • @supasaiyn your actually serious? lol actually Coquelin Benayoun Arshavin are top class players .. the other players you called like Arshavin are just out of form or are to young to be in the 1st team ...
