Learning Objectives: By the end of the session Nurses will have an increased understanding of the prevalence of chronic health conditions and how this has altered the way in which care is sought, managed, delivered and received.
By the end of the session nurses will have an increased understanding of health promotion initiatives that encourage daily decisions that improve health-related behaviours in clients with chronic health conditions.
By the end of the session nurses will have an increased understanding of strategies and interventions that enhance an individual's ability to manage their chronic health condition.
Bio: Patrick McGowan, Ph.D,
Patrick is an associate professor, University of Victoria. During the last 25 years his main research focus has been on investigating implementation of best practices and effectiveness with health education programs for persons experiencing chronic health conditions - especially self-management programs and strategies. Patrick participates on provincial, federal and international research committees and was the team leader for the development panel for the new RNAO Strategies to Support Self-Management in Chronic Conditions: Collaboration with Clients.
