Portugal has so many great things, it's too bad the same bitter idiocy continues to put down a most excellent country generation after generation. Your attitude is part of the problem, not the solution. Think you have water coming from the tap that is clean, electricity to power your computer and food in your belly. You can talk to your friends over a bica and more freedom than you give yourself credit for. Wake up.

It's nice to remember your heritage but it's good to keep in mind that Algarve is the result of many other cultures besides moorish and that the Algarve of TODAY is not arabian and anybody wanting to distort the Algarve culture of TODAY with pseudo-arabic exotisms because they're too coward to actually go to a real arab/muslim country don't do the Algarve any justice: any tourist can have sex with strangers and drink booze and not go to prison, after all.

Well, why not put some italian music? I mean, didn't the whole place belong to the Roman Empire for much longer than it belonged to the moors? I think the video is cool but the music certainly does not agree with the entire culture and feel of the place. Hop to Morocco and it's a different world altogether, where your music does agree with. Algarve is very much in a western european country and the moors will agree with that statement.

In the 1139 Ourique battle, the Count of Portugal (then a tenency of the Leonese gothic kingdom in the northwest of the Península) Afonso Henriques was conquering the south from the arabs, and after winning this battle we was claimed by the portuguese GOTHIC people first king of Portugal (Alphonsus Rex Portucalensis). Anyway, the moors did't conquered Al-Gharb after the battle of Ourique in 1139, the arabs invaded the Visigothic kingdom of Hispania in 711, and after that our visigothic ancestors refuged themselfs in the montains of Asturias (northern Península), starting the gothic reconquest to the south.
