Dick Cavett and Michael Parkinson were and still are one of the best interviewers, in my opinion.

@oobah2 No, Cavett's show was not one of the most watched shows, not even close, with certain exceptions being when he had on really good and elusive guests like Brando and Hepburn. You can check out top TV ratings for the period on Neison's website to find this out.

@oobah2 don't ever wish you lived in a previous time. it's lame, self-defeating, and gets you nowhere. If you desire change that badly, your first step is to get off your butt and at least try something instead of pathetically moping about how you wished you lived in a previous time. Every time has it's up and downs, and then it was no different (actually there were many downs with living in the 60s). Chin up.

@unfortunatebeam Leno, etc., which aren't mindless television by any means, but compared to this I can't stand even one show of theirs, it's just 90% mindless drivel to me. Of course there's intelligent, thoughtful and relevant stuff on today; I'm just saying it's much harder to find than it used to be. The general public nowadays just generally gets brain-mush stuff like what I previously mentioned. It's very unfortunate, and is one of the many reasons I wish I could've lived through the 60's.
