@DonMocillo the soviets destroyed practically any village ,town, that they thought were hostile, they threw thousands of toys out of helicopters booby trapped ,to maim afgan kids, they searched and destroyed everywhere , if soviets were good old friends ,why did the afgans kick they out and fought them for a decade, the allies have done a lot in afganistan to,most afgans dont want the taliban back , theres nothing to rob in afganistan at all

Don't forget: sobiet army NEVER occupied anything and in Afragnistan was a guest of Afgani government and Afgani people. Soviet Union built lot of schools, hospitals and civilian objects.NATO occupation forces done nothing like USSR. That's why afgani people take russians as old good friends and americans as enemies invaded their country to kill and robber them.

The US supported the rebels because the radicals were not a threat to us at that time & Russia intended to take over Afghanistan. They were not trying to set up a gov in Afghanistan that wouldn't support radicals. Russia was going to make Afghanistan communist & that's what the US was fighting.
