March with Me - Vangelis with Montserrat Caballe (Live in Athens - Greece)

In the Panathenean Stadium, Athens 90,000 spectator, ancient all-marble stadium, Montserrat Caballe, the infamous Spanish (Catalan) Soprano, sings Vangelis creation March with Me.
The performance was part of the Opening Ceremony of the 6th IAAF World Championships in Athletics in 1997 in Athens.
The concept of the ceremony, the direction, the artistic and musical supervision was solely by Vangelis Papathanasiou.

Στο Παναθηναϊκό στάδιο, το αρχαίο καλλιμάρμαρο στάδιο της Αθήνας, η Montserrat Caballe, η διάσημη Σπανιόλα (Καταλανή) σοπράνο, ερμηνεύει τη δημιουργία του Βαγγέλη Παπαθανασίου March with Me.
Η ερμηνεία ήταν μέρος της τελετής έναρξης του 6ου Παγκοσμίου Πρωταθλήματος Ανοικτού Στίβου της IAAF, το 1997 στην Αθήνα.
Η έμπνευση, σκηνοθεσία, καλλιτεχνική και μουσική επιμέλεια ήταν του Βαγγέλη Παπαθανασίου.

I actually have the whole opening ceremony of the 1997 World Championships in Athletics in Athens in 9 parts. I will post it in the following days together with a couple of old interviews.

A lot of people and professionals see this ceremony as better than any Olympic ceremony including the Athens 2004 one.

Vangelis did pretty much everything in this event as the concept, the direction and the artistic and musical supervision was solely his.

I was there. Superb 1997 IAAF ceremony, the staging, lighting, the setting, the music...fantastic! A couple of months later Athens was awarded the 2004 Olympic Games. If Vangelis had been the artistic dorector how might those ceremonies turned out? Still, the Athens 2004 Opening Ceremony was unforgettable.
