This is an honest question. I'm 14 and have never been hunting before, so would this gun take out a deer if you were using subsonic ammo? How do you like the gun?

I'm looking at that same rifle from S&H in Oklahoma. Have you tried several different bullets? I'm wondering about the kill range and sound of the rifle, hog hunting at night when I buy mine. i want quiet but range of maybe 80 yds, got any suggestions on bullet grain and grams of powder or the fps rating.

do you hog hunt with it

That's awesome how you can hear the bullet even hitting that water.

I had no idea you could suppress that much sound out of a rifle...

I wanted 240 grain pills, but all the shop could get was the 205's. My hunting loads are 240 grain JHP's at 1800fps from my 96/44 - for hogs. I wanted something that shot reasonably close to the same POI at close range for practice sessions.
Having shot one of those, it is my "I wish I had this!" dream rifle.

Yeah, it's probably my favorite of all the ones I own, it's really cool.

Too cool - I want one for my 96/44! What sort of load is that?

this particular load was a .44 special cowboy action load-- a 240gr LRN going about 800fps. Not the most powerful, but definitely the most quiet.

Cool. I'm loading 205 grain RNFP at about 1100 fps for my plinkers.

1100 is right at the cusp of going supersonic, you'd probably get alot less noise and more accuracy if you're bullets werent going trans-sonic; the shockwave buildup de-stabilizes them. Most subsonic loads are 1000fps max, usually more like 950 or so. I cant wait until I can start re-loading my own subsonics.
