Pumping water out of the Columbia River to solve water problems in the Yakima Basin is not a new idea. It is already being done to solve water problems on the Umatilla River. It will be done on the Walla Walla River as well as to solve the Odessa problem.

  • Transferring water from the Columbia River to the Yakima River may not be viable--cost of storage is an issue. For instance, it costs about $6.7 billion to build and operate the Black Rock dam. In this economy, we simply do not have the means to.
