Dude, this is too cynical, taking a traditional African/American spiritual and using to mock the modern christian church. IMHO you are disrespecting the old-time gospel tradition. Yeah, it's a free country, but this attitude you're putting out is only representative of a narrow modern viewpoint. The folks in the Jim Crow south who sang the original version, were getting some comfort from this song.
I can't imagine any choir singing along with your disheartening " version".
