The ticking started after an oil change/ spark plug change/ replacement of intake manifold, egr, fuel rail etc.... Had just gotten the car so don't know what oil was previously used. But its now running 5w-30. There Is a small crack on the head that is an inch long hair line crack. And there is an exhaust leak around the cat. The possibilities that ive researched are anywhere from a lifter, valve, timing chain, then the worse ones; rod knock, piston slap, or spun bearing...

NOTE: On a cold start there is no ticking what so ever. Once the car climbs to a normal running temp is when the ticking starts and persists whether at idle, reved, or even driven.

  • You are the ignorant one. Sorry to have to set you strait after you just made an idiot of yourself. But, these sohc engines do in fact have lifters. Tho they are self adjusting, they are lifters none the less.

  • rebuild or overhaul if u run it like that eventually the connecting rods/beam rods will go bad an make a hole on ur block

  • Vavles

  • it could be the wrong octane fuel

  • i have the same motor and it started doing this. it could be your lifters or your timing chain is too loose and hitting the guides. mines the timing chain

  • didi you solve the problem??

  • @XxROTARYxX It wont "blow" an exhaust gasket, but it will cause one to go bad. It'll also give your O2 sensor inaccurate readings causing your engine to run less than perfect.

  • exactly how mine sounds. check the valve rods and the screws holding down the valves. mine were messed up

  • @RB25DET240SX1 I have a ka24e also but why would missing a exhaust manifold bolt cause a gasket to blow....thx for answering..just learning.
