Actually, I never saw any documentation either proving or disproving this fight ever took place. However, having studied UechiRyu since 1974, and on Okinawa since 1979 with Kanei Sensei and other seniors, I think I would have heard something about this at some time - but I never did. You're probably correct in labeling this a rumor. At any rate, the name "Uechi" is a common name, and if such a fight took place, it was not with a member of the Uechi family of UechiRyu fame. Good catch.
@GSBreyette BL never fought a man name Uechi nor the member of the Uechi ryu family. There's no documentation but only rumors of such fight taking place. Even BL closet friends and family members don't know who Uechi is, or that he exist or if this fight took place. Another fan made rumor on Google.
Lee fought a man named Uechi. Uechi is a very common name on Okinawa and now in Mainland Japan. Sort of like Jones, or ... Lee ...
Uechi means "upper ground". Many Okinawan names are derived from the places the nameholders lived in, or the jobs they held, ancestrally. Like Cartwright, or Smith. Most who have the name Uechi are not related even distantly.
This is a poor copy of a great film made by Charles Earle in 1965, as noted below.
You will find anyone in Cyberspace. Kanei Sensei is fast no doubt but the bluriness is caused by the movie clip copied a million times. And, what has Bruce Lee got to do with this...? What's the connection between a teenager and an old master?
actually it's the tape slown right down... if you watch closely on some of his movements, his arms go blury meaning the camera is too slow to catch all the movements in proper detail.. bruce lee had the same problem where he had to actually slow down in his films for the camera
