The year 2007 bore witness to a new breed of malware that preyed on unsuspecting systems and caused record-breaking loss of information and financial assets. It is estimated that over 79 million records were exposed last year alone. As a result of these catastrophic security breaches, the government imposed several regulatory laws that mandated corporations to protect the privacy of individuals; and to ensure the proper internal controls are in place to maintain confidentiality and integrity of sensitive information.
