Music is Haram according to Sahih Al Bukhari Book 69 Hadith Number 494.
Music can be used in a good ways such has a medical tool for example Musical Therapy, and anything else that is benefital to ones health when at a time of need. Just like Alchol is Haram but can be used for medical purposes.
There is no doubt that the music you listen to on TV such as MTV and other music channels of that nature play Haram music promoting sexual activity along with drugs and other things.
