100 GALLON REEF October update

tank update -
still having a few problems with hair algae on the rocks, will be a long process to rid it all.
Think it may be improving though.

bit of cynao starting to appear in my refugium also

Have added a few more devices for circulating water to help hair algae situation also.
spent 45 euros on 2 x 12000lph wavemakers and a rotating deflector on one side of the sump return pump.

Javanese juwel damsel is playing havoc with my zoanthids since hes gotten bigger.
He is slowly but surely starting to consume them all.

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS FISH TO ANYONE.

I bought him not knowing what he was and fish store sold me two. Found out later can only be kept on their own and he killed the other. This fish is VERY VERY aggressive and as stated likes to eat corals.Has a good set of teeth on him.

If I could catch him he would be history!!!

orange shoulder tang seems a bit skinny and does not seem to be filling out like the regal.
have seen the shoulder scratching a bit too over the last month so started soaking food in garlic to see if it helps.

Have also modified overflow box by angleing the lip so water flows quicker through it so i could turn the ocean runner 6500 return pump up to max flow and allow faster turnover through system

in case anyone is wondering bubble anemone has gone in after a big feed of a muscle.

ya they are good allright but the other half didnt like them in it so I removed them again.

she thought they took up too much room in the tank so i am not looking to get something tidier like a vortech

how do i match my overflow box gph to my water pump? will 700 gph pump work good with a 600 gph overflow box?

to be honest I used a 6500 lph pump on my 6500 lph overflow but needed to do a few modifications.

at present i have a flow valve at the return pump.

If i was doing it again the best option would be to get a pump rated higher than the box like you have mentioned 700gph for a 600gph and if the return flow is too high use the flow tap on the return pump to adjust it to suit

Hi Brandon,

Yes this is normal, as they mature the change colour and turn a dusty brown colour all over. Its unfortunate as they end up very plain looking in comparison to how they look as a juvenille

its a glass tank 10mm thick, i use a magnet cleaner for cleeaning the front glass and evry few weeks a blade and a rough sponge for the back.

i have the mixture of snails mentioned and several mixed hermits, black and white, blue, red and brown but still algae remains.

just set everything up on my 75 gal. tank on sat. i put live sand, & rock in how long till i can add fish? & corals also

I want a nice circulation in my 50gallon, would this type work well?
