Peter Gilson had that old hat for years,it stunk of fish most of the time and he rarely took it off,but underneath was a man from whom I learnt a lot from,even how to run faster when he chased me round the deck of his fishing boat Anja. I managed to get in the wheelhouse and lock him out.Wish he was still here.

" Chalky" White took over from me on the Teal. He also became the full time mechanic on Greater London and Percy Garon, the Atlantic 21. I played the Last Post as Greater London went down the slipway for the last time.

I was his deckie in 1962. Before me was Colin Sedgewick who is now I believe, the current Hon Sec for Southend Lifeboat.
