Pete Wendling plays Memphis Blues by W.C. Handy on a piano roll - QRS 491.

Some recording details: You hear a MIDI file which was created by reading a piano roll with a special optical scanning device. The resulting MIDI file is converted to a WAV file with a high qualitiy soundfont (instead of a real piano as in my other videos). Then some filters (reverb and lowpass) are applied to the file, which is then converted to AVI.

This sounds better than using the keytop player, since I don't have decent microphones to record the piano for you. -- Of course, at home, a real piano sounds better than a computer, but it's very cumbersome to get that sound up here on youtube.

  • I love this song. I have an old LP with Mr Handy telling the story of "Mr. Crump" and the reaction to the song in Memphis. It made me think of another "remember where you were" about fifty years later. The LP also has many of his other much more well known songs. Thanks for posting the video.
