I love arabian reining and am extremely supportive of it. I am tired of people dissing this lovely breed and marking them as "high maintence" and "prissy"..excuse ME but the majority of them are NOT - there are exceptions to EVERY rule. I own a very overreactive QH 8yr and she's more hyper-spaz then my 4yr old arabian. Stop focusing on the fact that arabs are very, VERY showy and realize that they are JUST as capable(if not MORE in some cases!) then your average reining QH. So..suck it up =P

@canadianjumpergirl14 Seriously! I own 2 Arabians and one of them is a great western horse so of course I prefer them, but it doesn't mean I'm going to go hate on Quarter Horse videos =/

No offense to Quarter horse people, but Arabian horse reining is so much more interesting. Quarter horses put their heads down and slowly go round the ring, but Arabs lift their heads and tails and give it their all! Now don't get me wrong, they are both magnificent breeds!

I started out in stock horse reining and switched over to the Arabs two years ago. I like the challenge and the money. The shows are so much fun! As far as conformation goes you can breed any horse enough times and get what what you want. The Arabians breed is just as versatile if not move than stock horses. I have a coming 3yr old purebred gelding who turns and stops on a dime after 20 rides. I ride him in a snaffle and spurs. Tell me it's not natural for him?

@thepsychoferret I've got a stock mare, and I've got an arab gelding. My arab gelding, at 20, accelerates, stops, turns, and spins way faster than my quarterhorse mare. I've also done pretty good on him barrel racing. Rab's are quick, agile little buggers, and they learn real quick. I'm not surprised they're gaining popularity. Don't get me wrong, stock horses have a good deal of power and just plain look good doing this stuff. Just don't knock what you ain't tried or don't understand. :)

@thepsychoferret Arabians are swift and can turn on the dime. Quarter Horse are good too yes. I have a Quarter Horse and have a love for Arabians and one day will own one but just cause you don't like Arabians doesn't mean you can put them down. They are very athletic and can do about anything. It just depends on the horse!! Any Type of horse!!

Can people just watch the video and stop dissing Arabians or Quater Horses!

Obviously traits vary within breeds but we are talking generalities. That said, you take 100 QH and 100 arabs, and race them 1/4 mile, chances are most of the QH will have better times. Similarly, Arabs will tend to be better endurance horses and excel in things like saddle seat/ dressage. I have a QH that I event, hardly a "typical" QH sport. I'm not saying any breed has an exclusive hold on a sport, but let's not be ignorant to why certain breeds tend to excel in certain disciplines.
-
While many QH do have more heavier muscling than an arab, there is a lot of variation in conformation in both breeds, and I have seen plenty of pure QH horses hardly fit to be described as such. It tends to vary among bloodlines, and a lot of Polish and Russian bred Arabs have very well made hindquarters for a western horse because of the emphasis on sprint-racers in the breeding programs of those countries.

Bellairis29- While I get what you're trying to say I have to diubt it a bit. Good Arabian conformation and good QH conformation is hardly IDENTICAL because the Bedouins were nomadic and thus bred more for endurance than specifically quick maneuvers. Almost any small horse is nimble enough to raid a tribe of humans caught unawares. The QH is a more powerful reigner bc they have been bred for stronger haunches . Arabians were meant to travel long distances in the desert.
Who in their right mind would take an Arabian reining? This should be left to stock horse breed. Arabians are great for endurance, but they don't have a good enough turn of foot for the short acceleration or fast turning of reining.

I'm sure you might not like the Arabian as a reining horse, but numerous QH owners are jumping in on the band wagon and breeding 1/2 QH 1/2 Arabian for the sole purpose of reining. The sweepstakes and price money is outstanding and growing every year in the 1/2 Arabian Reining division.
