I suppose every studio is different in their application of etiquette but most ballet teachers will ask you to leave until your hair is properly put into a bun.

Wearing your hair in a bun shows respect for your teacher and respect for what you are learning. You definitely need it up and away from you or you could get tangled in your own hair. Put your hair in a ponytail then braid the ponytail and then follow the "wrapping" steps they show in this video to make a bun. The braids will make your long hair more managable.

I am sure people do it different ways. But I think you would absolutely need two rubber bands and a net or it wouldn't stay through much activity. And everyone I know calls those things bobby pins.

Its just a class. Not like you are going to a ballerina. Just put it up into a ponytail, or whatever.
