In 1958, many established great jazz leaders (Miles, Mingus, Coltrane...) discover a new and great challenger in modernity :
Ornette Coleman is the leader of a wonderful quartette without piano. He plays the alto sax, with Don Cherry on pocket trumpet, Charlie Haden on Bass & Ed Blackwell on drums. A few months later, the next album of the quartet is called "free jazz".
