Another video taken at the West Grinstead Ploughing match on the 19 September 2009. The steam engine is in the process of pulling out the wire rope for connection to the five furrow reversible plough at the other end of the field. The book "The Farmers Tools" states that a system developed by John Fowler in 1859 won a prize of £500 from the Royal Agricultural Society, based on a steam engine and wire rope ploughing system, some 160 years ago. Have we advanced ploughing technology that far in the intervening years??
