Campus Sidewalk Saints Chalk Bomb

A group of Catholic students chalked up Oregon State University with endless Catholic Saints during the middle of the night on Tuesday May 15th, 2007. The next day, the Genocide Awareness Project came, and the quad was packed full of people. The following day (the morning of this video), the "Snow in the Quad" event brought even more exposure. Then at night, the "Relay for Life" brought students to the quad, who circled it nonstop, walking by Saint names the whole time. That's all in addition to the thousands of students passing by in the beautiful spring weather until it rained on Friday afternoon. The chalk crew hit the MU, but also many random spots around campus. Saint names EVERYWHERE!

At the time of this filming, the names had already been down a whole day. Some people, as you can see, wrote violating things next to some of the Saint names. But they weren't smart enough to come out early, so they'll be surprised to see their additions crossed out and replaced with a cross and "PAX" written next to it! Someone did write "St. Linus" next to "St. Lucy". Not sure if they meant this as a joke (think Lucy and Linus from Peanuts), but St. Linus is a real Saint (as you would discover from the chalk comment).

Well, that was kind of the problem. The Newman Center had a booth set up in the quad, but that was the only context that was brought. I could see how some people would be really confused.
