Old news footage I found when going through my files. R.I.P. KFAR. The feds raided Knoxville's community radio station and hauled off all the equiptment. This was the news that night. KFAR stood for Knoxville First Amendment Radio and broadcast on 90.9 fm for years before being raided. I just want to go on record to say that I officially blame Marty P. & Sonny aka Fat Boy for keeping KFAR from returning on the air.

  • KFAR where are you today? FCC is selling Low Power FM licenses in 2011...

  • I wonder what the FCC does with all the confiscated equipment

  • I don't think it is that hard to get a low power, non-commercial lic, especially in an area where not much is going on like South Knoxville. Open space on the spectrum is pretty common in areas like that.

  • I think sec 301 needs to be changed.. part 15 also needs to be changed as well...

  • "Big fines a possibility"

Yeah, big fines so large no one could ever realistically pay what the FCC say's these people would have to pay. Might as well be called what it is - A joke. Like these RIAA lawsuits going on . . . fining a 12 year-old 1.2 million dollars. Yeah, whatever.

  • In the year 2012 , this agency is on the top of the list for "DEEP", budget cuts...And there will be changes in the law in regards as to who can use the airwaves at the lower level..

  • thanks for the reply, i may do this as well and "f'" the FCC. i will keep it under 20 watts.

  • @mechanicalbu11 yeah very hard... and expensive... so i'm using my xmitter without a license, 2 xD

  • how hard is it to get a FCC approved license to broadcast?

  • Pretty sick huh?

A much bigger deal to them than to us. They look at it as us messing with their money; if big stations complain or they don't enforce licensing, and more people will just fail to get licensing...

Bottom line? Government makes less money. That's what this is ALL about is trying to stop a radio movement and preserve their income. It's wrong and disgusting but their actions make sense from their perspective.
