6201 (46201) Princess Elizabeth on The Royal Scot (Crewe - Carnforth - Penrith - Carlisle and return) on Saturday 15th October 2011. Princess Elizabeth is seen at Oubeck Loops and on the climb to Shap summit. At Oubeck Loops she was preceded by 92017 with 4S43 (the Stobart Less CO2 Daventry IRFT - Mossend Yard Intermodal goods train) and just as I was packing up 47790 and 47832 came south topping and tailing the Northern Belle 1Z94 (Glasgow Central - Chester) excursion.

The climb to Shap was quite slow but it was a strange situation. Although the microphone didn't pick it up because of the wind, you could hear Lizzie coming through the Lune Gorge and then it went silent. After a while it sounded like she was restarting after a stop and she came into view much slower than usual. Matters weren't helped by a slip near the site of the former Scout Green signal box. At the least the following Virgin unit wasn't right up her tail.

It would be nice if the tour promoters were sufficiently impressed with Lizzie on their tours that they resolved to get Princess Margaret Rose going again

  • Excellent film Chris. Sorry it took me so long to get to see it. Barry

  • @bkendlerA4 And I for the late reply! Thanks Barry - and I've just had a letter from 6201 Chairman saying Lizzie has been granted an extension for main line operations until December 2012. Chris

  • Excellent footage Chris - what superb light at both locations, and a lovely glint at Greenholme. That location really does afford an excellent view of what must be 3 miles of the climb. Cheers, David.

  • @Linesider1 Thanks David. I thought the sun would have come round a bit more to make up for the loss of sound but it didn't work out that way. As you say it is a good long shot and, given the standing start, I thought Lizzie managed well. Chris

  • What can I say? Yet another excellent video of my favourite lady in red. Many thanks, Chris. This just made my day, but, oh to be in England.

  • @Lainiodurrant Hi Elaine. Thanks for the kind comment - the big red lady has been performing well all summer. A credit to her and her keepers (and a joy to see and hear). Luckily I have been able to see her several times but sadly not had the pleasure of a ride behind her. Take care - Chris

  • @981smithy Thanks Phil. Think Lizzie did well from a standing start. Chris

  • @rab4472 Thanks Mike. A lot clearer this week (and I managed to press the button properly). Just disappointed the sun didn't get as far round as I'd hoped. Chris

  • @khankadet . Cheers Chris, all credit to the crew to get the lady up to speed from a standing start. Pity about the slip at Scout Green which pegged any acceleration back somewhat. Lizzie is a very good performer over the WCML and was not going to be beat! Thanks Dave.

  • Excellent coverage of Lizzie performing well and also excellent panning by the cameraman. Thanks for posting Chris.

    Regards Phil.
