2001 ALH TDI with 214,000 miles, cold start at -2ºF (-19ºC). No muffler on this engine, but small glass pack resonator in the exhaust tips.

Small puff of bluish smoke before exhaust quickly switches to being steamy.

No problem for the TDI.
Video shot with a Panasonic ZS7 compact megazoom camera.

  • how many glow plug cycles did you do? started really fast

  • @runaway0401 Just one. Glow plugs are extended to maximum pre-glow via VCDS.

  • I have a Bora and i didn't start it for 2 months. Today, it started at the first time without any problems even it was -11 C cold. And i forgot to say that it's diesel. I just love my Bora :D

  • @eb2143 cool, i dont know how to do that. mine goes on and off in one second in 35 degree F

  • love this engine

  • Eb2143. Sounds just like my TDI cold start, check mine out. Just search my name Hogie1685.

  • Its steam gosh chillax men

  • So, the non-oil burning VW's WON'T start at this temp.?

  • @walkingfreak It is very possible, because something just does not understand the engine is so especially in the diesel of petrol is driving ...

  • @062254996 Incorrect. all diesels do this when cold and diesel is basically oil and would be dumping grey smoke if it was consuming oil. Gasoline engines dump blue ish smoke when consuming oil.
