This short clip was created for BCM301 to discuss the concept of history 2.0 and folksonomies. Through a class discussion exercise, a critical analysis of user tagging on the Flickr network and an article by Adam Mathes (2004) we uncover some of the key strengths and weaknesses of a folksonomy. We conclude that although the uncontrolled and chaotic nature of a folksonomy undermines the fundamental purpose of a traditional organizational structure, it allows users to organize digital content their way while participating in, and learning from, a larger online collaborative.
